The wedge gate valve is a linear motion, multi-turn general service valve, primarily for on/off, non-throttling service. It is operated by lifting a barrier away from the flow path, there is no obstruction to the flow when fully opened meaning there is little to no flow resistance. The valve is closed by an angular faced wedge or gate that slides down to block flow and rests in a wedge to improve sealing.

​The wedge gate valve can be manufactured with either a rising or non-rising stem.
